Your Opuntia gomei will be similar to that pictured in the 6” black nursery pot. Your plant may or may not be rooted at the time of your purchase. This plant will ship bareroot.
I know people who raise O. gomei as a food source.
Opuntia gomei is a variety of Opuntia that can range from the spineless and almost glochid free to having many glochids.
It produces a yellow flower in late Spring.
I have seen O. gomei reach sizes of 3ft x 3ft; however, I have been told they can get bigger.
This variety is not as hardy as other Opuntias. My experience is that it freezes in the lower thirties or high twenties; however, I have been told it has survived as low as 10F.
Water usage - Allow soil to become dry between waterings — I usually have one or two pots outdoors year round (when the temp is above 32F) and they receive lots of rain water [they stay wet] and have yet to rot.
However, I recommend you bring it inside if the temps are going to fall below 40F.
